HOW TO MAINTAIN TRUST IN A RELATIONSHIP
Trust is one huge aspect when it comes to sustaining a healthy and long lasting relationship.Once trust is lost, then most definitely the relationship is headed towards a downwards spiral.
Building trust in a relationship is therefore very essential for that lasting connection. Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Be honest
You have to be honest with your partner, otherwise you can’t build trust. Be upfront about your feelings, your past, and your intentions. If you have something to hide, it will only come back to bite you in the end.
However small to you the lie may seem, to someone else it could be a deal breaker. Don’t let it get that far.
- Keep your promises
As simple as it sounds, keeping promises will go a long way in fostering trust between you and your partner. If you can’t keep promises then just quit making them alltogether. If you say you’re going to do something, do it. If you are unable to do it, be upfront and honest about why. Breaking a promise is a surefire way to destroy trust.
- Be there for your partner
I can’t stress this enough.! When your partner is going through a tough time, be there for them. Don’t just show up only when “He” or “She” is in celebratory mood. Offer support and understanding. Let them know that you’re there for them, no matter what.
How you would want to be treated If tables turned? With that in mind, act accordingly.
- Be loyal
A lot has changed nowadays especially in this digital era. Social media has been blamed for every misfortune you can think of including rotten morals. However, loyalty is a choice and everyone can choose what to do and what not to.
Be loyal to your partner and avoid flirting with other people or talking about them behind their back. If you have doubts, talk to your partner about them.
- Be patient
Trust is not something that just happens out of the blue. Building trust takes time. It’s something that needs to be nurtured and cultivated. Therefore, be patient and let the trust grow gradually over time.
There’s a reason with time you confidently make remarks such as “i don’t trust so and so”. You’ve learnt how they operate , hence the sentiments. Give it time and all will fall into place.
What then if that trust is already lost? Sometimes all hope is not lost although that’s dependent on your partner and how bad they resent what you did. That’s not to say that there are not instances where the damage is already done. No! Sometimes there is no recovering from certain things.
At times, a simple “I am sorry” could turn around the situation, but most times people tend to misuse it. If you are constantly apologizing but resuming to the same old you, then i doubt anyone would trust you.
Sorry works when a mistake is made, but not when trust is broken
MY TAKE
Mistakes happen, but never let it get to the point where your partner can’t trust you at all. This way you can still salvage your relationship.
