HOW TO LET GO OF NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS

Negative thoughts and feelings can be incredibly destructive and can prevent us from living our lives to the fullest. As much as it’s difficult to let go of these thoughts and feelings, it surely is possible.

Here are a few tips on how to do just that:

  • Acknowledge your negative thoughts and feelings.

Acknowledging these thoughts exists is actually the first step in letting go. It’s more like admiting you have a problem, and looking for ways to solve that. If you have been harboring these thoughts and feelings for a long time, only you can decide on when to put an end to the cycle.

However, it is important to be honest with yourself and to recognize that these thoughts and feelings are causing you harm. Are you able to carry on with your day to day activities normally? If not, this should be a wake up call.

  • Identify the source of your negative thoughts and feelings

Having acknowledged your negative thoughts and feelings, you need to identify their source or simply where they stem from. This can be difficult, and quite possible. You’ve probably been in situations where you do not know why you’re feeling a certain way.Well, atleast i have been although after taking time and analyzing, i end up knowing the cause.

It is important to be as specific as possible. For example, if you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed, try to identify the specific event or situation that is causing these feelings. It’s easier this way to deal with the issue once and for all, rather than having a recurring problem due to it being unresolved.

  • Make a list of your thoughts and feelings Inclusive of the (negative and positive).

Making a list of the negative thoughts and feelings may seem like you are adding fuel to the fire, but hear me out. This can help you see how often these thoughts and feelings are popping up and how much damage they are causing you.

The same goes for the positive ones. How much impact do they bring into your life? Every time they pop up, are you happy and as a result productive? If that’s the case, it’s up to you to decide how much space you have to even entertain the slightest bit of negativity. Strive to challenge your negative thoughts and feelings.

  •  Practice self-compassion

One of the best ways to let go of negative thoughts and feelings is to practice self-compassion. This means being kind and understanding to yourself, even when you are struggling.

It’s very easy to be hard on yourself especially if you keep on failing at letting these negative thoughts go, but that should not be the case. You are allowed to try as many times as you want until you eventually get there.

  • Connect with loved ones

Another great way to let go of negative thoughts and feelings is to connect with your loved ones. This can be as simple as talking to your friend(s) or spending time with your family.

Being sorrounded by people you love and care about brings some sort of consolation and excitement you end up forgetting your problems. Any time you feel some sort of negative feelings or thoughts creeping in, it’s good to hangout with people that will make snap you out of it.

  • Use positive affirmations

Affirmations, and in this case Positive affirmations can be a great way to let go of negative thoughts and feelings. This means repeating positive statements about yourself, such as “I am a positive light” or “I can do it.”

The more you actually practice affirmations, the more you believe in them and start acting that way. Make it a habit to speak good things about yourself such that it will be so difficult in believing any sort of negativity.

Let your response to every situation be “it’s all good”. Because even if it isn’t, it will be.
